Johnson King wins Technology PR Campaign of the Year

Johnson King has consolidated its position as one of Europe’s leading technology PR agencies by winning ‘Technology PR Campaign of the Year’ at the 2008 CNET Networks UK Business Awards.

Johnson King has already won ‘Best PR Company’ at this year’s SC Magazine Europe Awards, and is currently shortlisted for ‘IT PR Company of the Year’ at the Computing Awards For Excellence 2008 and ‘Best PR Agency’ at the B2B Marketing Awards ’08.

The winning CNET Awards campaign was ‘The Facebook Probe - who's controlling the corporate network?’, developed and implemented on behalf of IT security expert Sophos.

In mid-2007, when the Facebook craze was at its height, the campaign highlighted the need for users to think twice before posting confidential personal information on social networking sites.  As a result, a small plastic frog called Freddi Staur (an anagram of ‘ID fraudster’) was catapulted into the media spotlight, starring in the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, on BBC Breakfast, Channel 4 News and many more.

The CNET judges said: “This campaign impressed us with its success in educating users about the potential perils of online which can lie in wait for fans of social networking. The agency developed an interesting angle on the story which resulted in high profile coverage for the client.”

Johnson King client Ruckus Wireless was also a double winner at the CNET Awards, scooping top honours in both the 'Networking Product of the Year' and 'Technology Innovation of the Year' categories.
