Over the past few Christmas periods, retailers have experienced a great spike in the number of online shoppers, as consumers look to avoid the high street crowds. To reap the rewards of this increase in online trade, retailers must ensure optimal website performance – with minimal delays and page load errors – otherwise they risk losing customers to competing outlets.
To capitalise on media interest in the issue, Johnson King worked with internet monitoring and measurement expert Keynote Systems to highlight the importance of website performance and availability – especially at peak periods of site traffic – given that as more shoppers move online, web retailers must now compete on convenience and customer experience as well as price.
Keynote monitored the websites of top retailers throughout December 2009 to see how popular shopping sites performed under the pressure of heaving online shopping baskets. Using the results, Johnson King drafted a series of media alerts highlighting how these websites were faring in comparison to the same period in 2008, and showing that retailers are clearly paying more attention to load testing and website availability.
By discussing the site performance of renowned and popular online stores throughout Europe, Johnson King successfully emphasised Keynote’s message that monitoring internet and mobile site performance is essential for all businesses in achieving customer satisfaction and retention, reinforcing Keynote’s position as the leading commentator on website performance issues.
