Corporate use of Web 2.0 applications like Twitter, LinkedIn and instant messaging skyrocketed in 2009, as firms began to recognise their business benefits.
However, little thought was paid to how firms should control the use of these tools and, ultimately, the spread of information through Web 2.0 channels – a key issue to information risk specialist Recommind.
To position Recommind as an expert on managing Web 2.0 intelligence, Johnson King undertook a survey focusing on how business data was shared via these channels. The survey revealed that three quarters of UK businesses lacked procedures to control employee use of these tools, leaving them vulnerable to information leakage, data breaches and non-compliance with external regulations.
Johnson King organised a roundtable discussion to evaluate the findings, attended by journalists from Computer Business Review, Information World Review and Legal Technology Insider, as well as analyst firm Ovum. In addition, Johnson King was able to secure two pieces of coverage in the Financial Times, examining how to manage corporate information irrespective of its format or location.
The campaign succeeded in positioning Recommind as a go-to-expert on a wide range of Web 2.0 issues, significantly raising the company’s profile at C-level within the UK information management space. Coverage highlights included:
